Behind the Scores: What Health Inspections Actually Tell Us
If you’ve browsed our Directory recently, you might have noticed a new data point under some of your favorite local restaurants: Food Inspection Scores.
Why did we add this? Because traditional local media operates on a pay-to-play model. They won’t report on a sub-par health score if that restaurant buys a full-page ad in their next print issue. We believe you deserve the whole picture.
Transparency Benefits Everyone
Publishing health inspection scores isn’t about shaming local businesses; it’s about accountability and consumer safety. When you have access to real data, the market corrects itself.
- For the Consumer: You get peace of mind knowing the wings you’re eating on game day are prepared in a safe, clean environment.
- For the Business: It’s a badge of honor. High-scoring restaurants can proudly display their pristine records, proving their commitment to quality.
How to Read the Scores
When you click into a venue’s profile, look for the Inspections block. A score of 90-100 is an ‘A’ rating, meaning excellent safety practices. A score in the 80s means good practices with minor infractions, and anything below a 70 requires immediate corrective action by the health department.
We don’t just post the number; when available, we summarize the notes from the inspector. This way, you know if a deduction was for something minor (like a misplaced thermometer) or something critical (like improper food storage temperatures).
We believe an informed community is a thriving community. Stay safe, eat local, and always check the score.
